This is a trick that I thought everyone knew, but almost every time I pull it out someone says, "Wow, why didn't I think of that?"
Sometimes you need a perfect layout line and it's worth the walk across the shop for a square or other straightedge, but most of the time you just need a line that is close enough. Save yourself a trip - just flip your tape measure over and it becomes a straightedge.
