August 2008 – DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of industrial power tools, today announced its national search for the Top 17 Finish Carpenters. Finish carpenters nationwide are encouraged to showcase their precision, craftsmanship and woodworking skills in the Top 17 Contest. Contestants will compete for a chance to win more than $4,000 in DEWALT power tools and accessories among other prizes. This announcement of the contest is tied with the launch of the new DW717 10" sliding miter saw, which provides improved accuracy and a high level of precision.

The first phase of contest begins on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 and will officially launch at the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) in Atlanta. Finish carpenters will be invited to submit a plan to build a project in one of three categories: mantles, built-in cabinets, or custom stairs. Users must also submit three images of prior work in that chosen category. Submissions will be accepted until Tuesday, September 24, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. EST at www.DEWALT.com/Top17.

During the second phase of the contest, on September 26, 2008, DEWALT representatives will select the Top 17 finalists who will receive a DEWALT tool package worth more than $2,000, which will include a DW717 miter saw and other essential woodworking tools needed to begin their projects. The Top 17 finalists will have a profile on www.DEWALT.com/Top17 where they will showcase their skills by posting their projects after completion of the contest. Online visitors will be able to vote on their favorite project and the one with the most votes will be named the DEWALT Top Finish Carpenter in December 2008. The winner will receive more than $4,000 in DEWALT tools and accessories, the DEWALT Race Experience at a 2009 NASCAR® event, and a Carhartt Gear Prize Pack.

This contest is being held in conjunction with recent launches of several DEWALT woodworking tools, including the DW717 10" sliding miter saw, 15ga and 16ga finish nailers, DW7440RS table saw rolling stand, and the new TrackSaw.
