DeWalt should replace, free of charge, every 12 volt DC9071 battery sold. These batteries are expensive and don't last very long before they become defective and won't hold a charge. The same goes for the 18 volt DC9096 batteries. I won't be purchasing any more DeWalt tools and will also advise others not to buy them.
Cons: These are the worst batteries on the market.
I have other brands that I owned before buying my first DeWalt cordless that still have good batteries. My friend talked me into a DeWalt for a project we were building (loft). It lasted for the loft project, and that was it. Within a few months, one battery showed defective. After a few more months, the other wouldn't hold a charge either. With 2 of these batteries costing $100, I'll just buy a new drill (different brand). Very disappointing.
Cons: Defective after very short duration. Won't hold a charge
I wish DeWalt would take this particular set of batteries back. Obviously it's defective. I have two of them and they both no longer hold a charge. After a year and a half of mild use they should still hold a decent charge, but they can't even make it through a small project.
