The DC9180 battery got warm and won't work in my tool any longer. What do I do now?
The DC9180 have electronics in them that are designed to shut the battery down if it gets too warm. Once this occurs, the battery will not work in any tool until it is put back into the DC9310 charger, this will then reset the electronics in the battery.
The battery is designed this way to protect the cells in the battery pack and results in a battery that will last far longer than a NICAD battery pack.

I have been using several xrp lithium batteries for several months. What a difference!! Forget the nicads .. this is the ONLY battery I will every use. Longer run times, much lighter, 3 times the number of recharges. Pay a little more .. get a whole lot more.
This battery is superb. it charges quickly and it holds its charge for a long time when unused. In other words, charge it, leave it in your toolbox and it will maintain its charge level for months without the need for recharging. it operates in a wide range of temperatures from freezing to high heat at the same optimal discharge rate. I don't want to sound like a Dewalt fanboy but there is no other way to sing this battery's praises.
There are some misguided reviews here. This battery is never fully charged nor is it fully discharged, these are two reasons why this battery will last you 2000 charge-cycles while charging incredibly fast. This is why your tool will not gradually lose power, it simply stops working. If you are a contractor, you will need two or three of these to get you through the day, by the time you're done using the second battery, the first battery is fully recharged. I think the LI cells have the A123's chemistry. It is expensive but worth every penny. This battery will last you 2-3 times as long as the DC9096 but what makes it worthwhile is that it will continue to hold a long charge for most of its useful life.
You might say you are not a pro and you don't need the performance; think again! this battery has a powerful property where it holds most of its charge for over 6 months. So next time you expect your tool to work because you charged it 6 months ago, it will!
Lithium Ion batteries are not all the same, this one is significantly more robust!
The only gripes I have are lack of any LED indicators telling you how much charge capacity you have left before a recharge is needed. I also hate Dewalt's chargers.
Buy this one, it is worth every penny.
Pros: Quick Charge, long life, light, good operating temprature range
i bought the impact and drill combo with the lithium batteries thinkingi they lasted longer than the xrp nicad batteries but they dont i have found they last about half as long than other xrp batteries i was very unhappy
I think this battery is WAY better than the battery it replaces. EVERYTHING is better except for one thing, it doesn't fit the DW500 wet/dry vacuum, DW911 Worksite radio & charger, DW908 flashlight, DC527 Florescent worklight. At least those are the ones I have where the battery doesn't fit.
Pros: Weighs less, has more power per charge
Cons: It doesn't fit some items for some strange reason.
