The "waffle" face of your framing hammer wasn't inteded to stike hard metal. It is to provide better hammering action on nails. The metal cap is to help protect the handle of the chisel. I have used similar Stanley chisels for 20 years without issues. These DeWalt have a better ergonomic handle. They fit nice in the hand.
Pros: Metal end cap SAVES the chisel!
Cons: 4 sizes instead of a greater variety of widths.
I have been swinging hammers for awhile now, if I may offer my two cents. Lose the steel cap from the strike end of the chisel, nothing beats up a waffle hammer worse than the steel cap of a chisel, except a cats paw.
Marpels chisel's are a good example of how to dissipate & grab striking energy without hurting the waffle of a hammer.
a 20% longer handle would be a nice touch.
Pros: High carbon steel
Cons: Steel cap drive, counter destroys waffle on hammer/both.
