Crew Profile: Todd Millard

By Jon Howland, DEWALT

TODD MILLARD
Hometown: Middleton, WI

Todd Millard is the tire specialist for the No. 17 DEWALT Tools Ford. Todd has been a part of Matt Kenseth’s crew ever since Kenseth was still racing late model stock cars back in Wisconsin. He basically followed Matt up through the ranks of the late models, the ARTGO Series and the Busch Grand National Series. In addition to handling seat/interior installations on the racecar, Millard also has windshield duty during the race.

Millard has been with Matt for so long, that recently when Sports Illustrated did a big story on Matt, they elected to interview Todd as well. Todd is a native of Middleton, Wisconsin and resides in Denver, NC.

Millard answered some question for DEWALT.com back in 2002:

  1. What would you say is the toughest aspect of your job and why?
The time I spend away from home and being on the road.  I think I miss quite a lot because it takes you away from friends and family.
  2. How did you get hooked-up with Matt, Robbie, and Roush Racing?
Back in 1991, I started working with Matt up in Wisconsin when he was running Late Models at Slinger Speedway.
  3. Why racing versus another career?
I love the fact that with racing, a sport that runs from the middle of February to the middle of November, you have the opportunity to compete almost every week of the year where as other sports only allow for competition a few months of the year.
  4. What element of the race weekend is your favorite and why?
The race. That is why I am here.
  5. If you had to identify the most memorable part of your racing career, what would it be?
Our first win at Rockingham in the Busch series back in 1998.  Without that win, who knows where we would be right now.
  6. On your limited time off, what do you do away from the track?
I generally work around my house, using your (DEWALT) tools, of course!
  7. What would you like to do after you’re finished with your racing career?
I think I would like to travel the world and see some of the more famous sites in the different countries.
  8. Do you have any pre-race traditions/superstitions that you go through prior to the green flag dropping?
    No.
  9. What has been the most memorable moment for you on Pit Road?
Without a doubt, having incredibly fast pit stops during the Coca-Cola 600 in May of 2000, which was a big factor in our victory.
  10. If I won the lottery, I would…
    Travel the world.
  11. I come to work everyday because…
    I love my job.
  12. What are your goals for 2001 and 2002?
We want to finish in the Top Ten this year and next year we really want to be a competitor for the Championship.
