DEWALT ANNOUNCES FIRST WINNER OF ONLINE SITELOCK™CONTEST

-- Virginia-Based Contractor Submits Winning Story –

-- 450 Contestants Entered To Win A Free SITELOCK™ System --

BALTIMORE – April 18, 2005 – DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of power tools, today announced the first winner of its “Tell Us Your Site Loss…Win A SITELOCK™ System” contest. DEWALTkicked off its contest on March 1, 2005, following the launch of SITELOCK™, an innovative portable, wireless system designed specifically for the construction industry. Participants were asked to submit their worst jobsite theft stories online at www.dewalt.com for a chance to win a free SITELOCK™ system. Juniper Construction, a Virginia-based general contractor, was selected from 450 entries as having the best entry and will receive a free SITELOCK™ system. A second winner will be chosen on April 30.

Research conducted by DEWALT last year identified jobsite theft as a top concern for the construction industry, with losses of more than $1 billion in the United States each year. These losses are a result of a widespread lack of effective security solutions for jobsites and equipment located on the sites. In response to its findings, DEWALT launched SITELOCK™ as a comprehensive solution to jobsite theft within the construction industry.

In March, DEWALT launched its online contest where contractors were invited to submit their worst jobsite theft stories for the chance to win a customized SITELOCK™ Security System, including one base unit, up to $2,000.00 of SITELOCK™ system accessories and one year of self-monitoring service. The total prize package has a retail value of over $3,000.00. DEWALT received more than 450 entries in March and DEWALT judges selected the winning essay.

Kevin Howe, owner of Juniper Construction, penned the first winning entry. In his essay, Howe described an overnight theft from two of his on-site construction trailers last March. Although the jobsite and trailers were each locked, the thieves employed cable cutters to sever the gate lock and both trailer locks. The incident resulted in a loss of nearly $8,000 worth of tools, equipment and construction materials. In addition to losing the expensive tools and equipment, the company also lost valuable man-hours. Howe and his staff spent many hours tracking down the invoices for the stolen items in order to file an insurance claim.

“As a victim of jobsite theft, I can speak to the amount of time and money lost when theft occurs. This is a major problem facing the construction industry today. I am excited that DEWALT has created a comprehensive solution that addresses the security needs of a jobsite so that contractors, like myself, can worry less about theft incidents and focus on the job at hand,” commented Kevin Howe, owner of Juniper Construction. “I am thrilled to be the recipient of a SITELOCK™ system and look forward to activating the system to help deter future theft on my jobsite.”

The Juniper staff spent over 100 hours dealing with the theft and the insurance claim, a productivity loss of about $3,700 according to Howe’s office manager. In retrospect, Howe wonders whether the theft could have occurred at all had his company had access to a more comprehensive security system.

Participants can continue to submit testimonials online at www.dewalt.com for a chance to win another free SITELOCK™ system until April 30, 2005, when the contest ends
