BALTIMORE, June 2002— DEWALT has revamped its 24-volt cordless SDS rotary hammer with a new battery system for longer run-time, and a new chipping mode for more versatility.

Ideal for electrical, mechanical, and fire protection contractors, concrete workers, highway workers, and other concrete drilling applications, DEWALT’s new DW005K-2 Cordless SDS Rotary Hammer has three modes: Rotary Hammer for fast penetration of brick, block, stone and concrete; Drilling Only, when used with a chuck adapter for holes in wood and metal; and now a Chipping mode to quickly remove concrete splatter or other imperfections.

The DW005K-2 runs off DEWALT’s FAN-COOLED 2.4 amp-hour NiCd (Nickel-cadmium) battery, which has 40% more run-time compared to the company’s previous 24-volt system. The new battery system uses a FAN-COOLED charger and a microprocessor that monitors the battery for more efficient charging.

Rotary hammer tests show that with the longer run-time battery, the DW005K-2 can drill up to 40% more per charge, or about a hundred ¼" x 1 ½" holes in concrete. In addition, the special battery and FAN-COOLED charging system allow for 3 times the number of recharges over the life of the battery. The tool also works with DEWALT’s DW0247 AC/DC converter (sold separately) using standard electric power.

The DW005K-2 is a variable speed rotary hammer ranging from 0 to 1,150 rpm (revolutions per minute) and from 0 to 5,800 bpm (blows per minute). A reverse setting permits removal of TapconÔ -type fasteners. In addition, the clutch is factory-set to reduce sudden high-torque reactions if the bit jams.
