BALTIMORE, Sept. 2003 - The new DEWALT 3"x 21" belt sanders have more power, improved durability, and a unique three-roller design that provides better balance and finish.
Used by professional woodworkers, cabinetmakers, stair installers, deck builders, carpenters, boat builders and other tradespeople, the DW433 heavy-duty belt sander is built around a powerful 8-amp motor with variable speed control and electronic feedback to maintain speed under load. Belt speed on the DW433 ranges from 850 to 1,400 surface-feet-per-minute (sfpm) for all types of material removal. The DW432 is a single-speed unit that runs at 1,400 sfpm.
Unlike conventional two-wheeled belt sanders, DEWALT is the only company to use a three-roller design. This allows the manufacturer to move the motor down between the rollers and directly over the platen. The three-roller design significantly improves balance and provides the lowest possible center of gravity on a 3"x 21" sander. The unique design also creates space for longest 3"x 21" platen in the industry, along with a patented automatic tracking flange on the top front roller. The extra-long platen is machined for smoothness and maximizes belt-to-material contact, while the tracking flange keeps the belt centered over the platen during sanding.
A durable, all-metal housing adds just enough weight to help the tool do the work without the user having to push down throughout the application. It also protects the belt sander from damage during accidental drops on a shop floor.
For added durability and improved dust collection, DEWALT uses a patented "break-away" dust bag that withstands impact if the sander is accidentally dropped. In addition, for applications when the dust bag is removed, the dust chute can be opened and closed with the flick of lever to keep dust from streaming onto the user. As an accessory, a vacuum adapter (DW4050) that connects the dust chute to a 1-1/4" hose is available separately.
For convenience, the cord is located atop the sander to avoid accidental damage from the moving belt. A rubber-gripped rear handle and removable two-position ergonomic front handle make the sander more comfortable to hold and easier to control.
As an accessory, DEWALT offers a combination inversion stand/sanding frame with a large adjustable fence (DW4055). The sander attaches to the stand which can be mounted on a workbench, turning it into a sanding station. It comes with the DW433KT belt sander kit, or can be purchased separately.
