Q: A customer of mine has asked me to build an armoire that has a large arc that goes across the whole length of the piece. How can I cut an arc (3 foot radius) accurately?
A: Use a router with a 1/2" straight bit, make an alternate sub base for your router with at least a 3 foot beam. Attach that sub base to your router and measure 3 feet from the router bit (Make sure that you account for the diameter of the cutter) and drill a small center hole. Clamp your work piece to a large table, making sure that the center point of the arc is on the table. Drop a finishing nail in the hole attaching the non router-side of the beam to the table. Use the beam and router combination like a compass to cut the 3-foot arc.
